Why We Recommend one of the
Most Touristy Activities in San Francisco
San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf is a stereotypical tourists dream--- with blocks of trinket souvenirs and themed restaurants. I can't judge though--- as we wandered the wharf figuring out what to do (bc we did not properly plan ahead to see Alcatraz, oopsπ), we decided to give a classic tourist-option a try and LOVED it.
We got tickets for a Hop On-and-Off Bus tour -- and while I like finding my way around a city on my own -- there are two big reasons why we'd recommend using Big Bus.
REASON #1: Experiencing the Bridge in the Open Air
The bus route included driving across the Golden Gate Bridge- and it was so fun to see it all from on top of the open bus. I didn't anticipate it, but it felt a lot different to get to look up and out at the bridge as we went over instead of trying to peer out the side of a car window. From the bus, you can really take in the full panorama of views
It was quite chilly once we reached the bridge, and very windy
REASON #2: Those Hills
The inclines of the streets of San Francisco are no joke. A three block walk in SF felt like a thirty block walk in Chicago. Seriously, after walking up to Lombard St., the next day I felt the burn in a spot under my calf muscles I didn't know existed.Being able to get a look at the offerings of each neighborhood, without spending a big chunk of the day in a public transportation bus π or cross-fit training for the inclines πͺ was a great benefit.
Where to Eat at Fisherman's Wharf
Before we found our Big Bus break, we did get to enjoy a truly delicious meal at The Cheese School. The restaurants along the water's edge were not appealing to us, so when we saw this new restaurant in Ghirardelli Square- it was a no-brainer.Mac n Cheese
French Raclette, Hook's 4 yr Cheddar, Scarfe Maxx, Comte, breadcrumbs
Kale Caesar
Kale, Farro, Parmigiano, Reggiano, Croutons
Grilled Cheese
Hook's 5 yr Cheddar, Point Reyes Farmstead Toma, Nicasio Valley San Geronimo
Check out our next post on our San Francisco trip to learn from our mistakes :)
