The byline for this market is "where the locals go"- and if we were locals, we'd be hitting up the City Market regularly. It has a great mix of year-round merchants with food and merchandise, as well as stands with locally grown produce. They had Ethiopian, Asian, Middle Eastern, Italian, Vietnamese, and French restaurants, so everyone can find something they'd like.
We started out our visit with some fresh fruit smoothies - it was very refreshing on a hot July day - and then enjoyed exploring the booths. I recommend exploring Dutch Flowers (southeast corner of the market)- the front section has a huge array of pots and planters, and then the back is floor-to-ceiling full of every home decor tchotchke you could imagine.
Dutch Flowers Every Spice Ever
Parking was hard to come by on the weekend, and as we were walking away from our spot we saw a fender-bender in the lot- so you may want to consider using the city's Streetcar system.
Kansas City Taco Company
This restaurant is aptly named- lunch was amazing π
Each taco had a distinct and delicious flavor with bright, fresh ingredients. We got 2 tacos each and that was plenty. Oh, and the street corn was so worth it, but difficult to eat without covering one's face in butter- finally halfway through we started cutting it off the cob -which was a much more functional way to eat when in public π
Kansas City Taco Company is located at the end of the block on Walnut St south of the market.
